abstract="This brief article details the decision of Clearwater Beach, Florida to utilize an electric rain gauge for timing traffic signals during peak storm hours. The gauge is activated by time-of-day commands issued by Clearwater's traffic control system, so that rain during non-peak beach hours does not call for the special timing plan. When the gauge is active, and the counter is above zero, a latch is set, sending an actuation back to the system and calling a special, immediately implemented, timing plan.<p />",
