abstract="In the event of an electrical storm, no single device can provide 100% protection for traffic signal controllers. The survival of traffic control equipment and its chances of continuing operation, without interruption or error, depends upon a series of protective measures. These include grounded 'static' wires run above the phase conductors and 'earthed' via wires on the poles connected to ground rods at the base, a very high quality multi-stage bidirectional filter network (series electronic filter), and a single point grounding system (zero reference point) for all of the interactive traffic control equipment's chassis grounds established in the cabinet.<p />",
