abstract="Magnesium hydroxide and huntite hydromagnesite were used in halogen free flame retardant (HFFR) compounds based on blends of ethylene vinyl acetate and low density polyethylene. The effect of both cross-linking with electron beam (EB) and the introduction of nano-filler on flammability were investigated. The developed compounds exhibited an improved oxidation induction temperature. A delay in the beginning of the decomposition of compounds was observed due to barrier effect as demonstrated by the cone calorimeter test. In addition, time to ignition increased with increase of irradiation dose and heat release rate was inhibited due to use of nano-fillers.<p />",
