abstract="The recent surge in popularity of lightweight, nonpowered miniature scooters has precipitated a surge in injuries. In fact, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) (2001) reported that between January and December 2000, more than 40,000 injuries were treated in the emergency department and 2 deaths occurred as a result of the use of miniature scooters. According to the Toy Manufacturers of America, scooters, which were virtually unknown just a year ago, topped the list of bestselling toys in September 2000. Sales were expected to reach 5 million units in a single year.",
