Abstract

We read with interest a recent paper on drowning published online in Resuscitation on 19 October 2019, and the accompanying editorial by Dr Handley playing devil’s advocate in supporting compression-only CPR in drowning.

Being a devil’s advocate typically means you don’t agree with the position but are putting it out to test the waters. If this is the case, Dr Handley and our group agree, as we also don’t really believe in compression-only CPR for asphyxial or paediatric arrests — or any arrest that is not a sudden cardiac arrest.

In supporting Fukuda’s paper as a game-changer, though, Dr Handley has bypassed a few important points ...
