Abstract

The reliability-based design method for variable amplitude fatigue proposed previously by the present author will be extended so that it covers the case where not only the critical cumulative cycle ratio but also the applied cumulative cycle ratio have considerable scatter. The method is practical since it does not require a large amount of fatigue tests and load measurements to be conducted under the relevant variable amplitude loading.
