Abstract

Home injuries commonly affect young children and the elderly. Fires resulting in burns and scalds, falls, poisonings, drowning, choking and suffocation from foreign body are some examples of home injuries. A number of studies have been carried out in the country over the years with varying results. Home injuries are preventable through health promotion activities. Individuals should be empowered to make decisions in modifying the environment towards a safe milieu. Knowledge and skills on first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation is important for the individual. Prevention of home injuries needs multi-agency cooperation and collaboration. In the long run the country would benefit enormously if home injuries are curbed.
